Hurrah! The UK is finally seeing a bit of sunshine, which has got our office well and truly in the holiday spirit.

So to celebrate the re-appearance of summer, we’ve trawled the Guinness Book of World Records to find the most unusual travel-related world records that have been set across the globe.

It’s a funny old world.

1. Largest Inflatable Beach Ball

Recorded in May 2012, the world’s largest inflatable beach ball belonged to a Polish man from Czluchow, Poland, and measured a massive 51 ft 10 in. Heads up!

2. Most Travelled Toy Mascot

Do you take your teddy on holiday? Even the most well-travelled mascots would struggle to match Raymondo’s record – he racked up an impressive 395,605 miles from the 27th September 2009 to 3rd September 2010, covering 6 continents and 25 countries on his epic adventure. Well done that bear.

3. Biggest Beach Towel

The place? Gran Canaria. The colour? Green. The size? 87.14 meters long and 25.20 meters wide. The item? A really massive beach towel. The reason? Ladies and gentlemen, we may never know.

4. Most Expensive City to Eat in Restaurants

Confirming what locals’ bank balances have suspected for years, London tops the list of expensive places to have food delivered to a table. And that bowl of chips will be £100, thanks.

5. Country with the Most Official Languages

With 11 official languages, the Republic of South Africa takes this prize. Take your pick from English, Afrikaans, isiZulu, isiXhosa, Sesotho, Setswana, Sepedi, Xitsonga, siSwati, isiNdebele and Tshivenda. Altogether now, “Sanibonani!”

6. Super Sandcastles

Last year, The Waves of Change built 1,939 sandcastles in the space of 60 minutes on Killahoey Beach in Ireland. The record for the tallest sandcastle, however, goes to Ed Jarrett in the USA, whose finished masterpiece measured 37 ft 10 inches (and used 1.6 million pounds of sand, fact finders). Sounds like a good way to keep the kids busy on holiday, if you ask us.

7. Most People Applying Suncream

Let’s be fair, if there’s anywhere in the world you need a record for applying suncream, it’s probably Australia. And it looks like the health campaigns are paying off, as 1,143 people managed to smother themselves in the stuff at the same time in June 2012.

8. Largest Collection of Sick Bags

Some people collect snow globes, others collect Wish You Were Here t-shirts, but Niek Vermeulen from the Netherlands trumps them all with his 6,290 strong collection of airline sickness bags. Bet he’s a riot at the dinner table.

9. Largest Cocktail

Fancy relaxing on holiday with a margarita? How about 39,746.82 litres of the stuff? Congratulations, Nick Nicora from Sacramento – you win the respect of booze hounds everywhere.

10. Fastest Time to Pack a Suitcase

Think you’re a fast packer? Well, the record for chucking 20 items into a suitcase is 1 minute 13 seconds if you fancy testing your speed. Sounds like a challenge in our books. Why not have a go and see how you get on?

What World Record would you like to set?
