You want somewhere that’s got bags of culture, looks good in Facebook photos, can show you a good time and most importantly, won’t leave you completely broke when it’s all over.

With that in mind, here are five different destinations for a couple’s holiday that won’t leave you disappointed in any of those respects.

Barcelona

With a sandy coastline that stretches for nine kilometres, Barcelona is far from being just a city break destination. The Catalan capital gives you a choice of city and seaside: so if one of you loves doing a spot of sightseeing, and the other just wants to top up their tan, there’ll be no arguments here. Depending on your preference, there are many hotels both in the city centre and along the coast, however you could comfortably walk from the beach to Las Ramblas in under 30 minutes. We’ve currently got Barcelona breaks from £135pp, so money won’t be an issue either.

Cancun

Mexico has become one of the most popular holiday destinations for couples in recent years, and the resort of Cancun on the Riviera Maya coastline ticks all of our culture, beauty and budget boxes. If you’re looking for a romantic getaway in luxurious surroundings, or want somewhere a bit more lively, this really is the place to go. Along with hotels at reasonable prices, you’ll find beautiful beaches, snorkelling spots and ancient Mayan sites such as Chichen Itza to visit. Don’t miss the nightlife, either: Cancun is packed with lively bars, clubs and restaurants.

Ibiza

Although it has a reputation for non-stop partying, you can have a couples holiday in Ibiza without needing to pack your glow sticks and hot pants. Santa Eulalia on the east coast of the island is a great option for a quieter getaway that is still within easy reach of the more vibrant areas. Away from the popular areas like San Antonio, you’ll find cultural and historical sites to wander around. That said, watching the sunset at Café del Mar is a must for cranking up the romance.

krakow

Krakow

The Polish city of Krakow is also a great shout for a getaway. It’s one of Poland’s oldest cities, awash with wartime history, ancient sites and plenty of architecture, museums and galleries for culture buffs to visit. Krakow is also set beside the Vestula River, so you can always get that romantic stroll in before spending an evening visiting some of the many underground bars in the city’s Old Town.
