“Deck the halls with boughs of holly,

Fa la la la la, la la la la.

‘Tis the season to book next year’s holiday,

Fa la la la la, la la la la.”

Those are the words, aren’t they?

No? Oh. Well they are in the HDC office.

If you’re singing to our tune, we’ve done a short rundown of some of the destinations that are set to become even more popular in 2014. It’s not all plucked from the abyss – we’ve based this list on what HDC customers have actually been looking for and anywhere else that’s caught our eye.

So book early, grab a deal, and try something new next year. Your suitcase will thank you.

Croatia

In recent years, Croatia has gradually been increasing in popularity, but 2014 is set to be a big year for this emerging country in south-eastern Europe. One of the most attractive things about Croatia is its variety. You can enjoy 2000 miles of coastline, walk through beautiful countryside, go island hopping, visit traditional towns, pretty harbours, quaint fishing villages and so much more. Much of the country is still largely untouched by the tourist industry, so 2014 is a great year to visit. For a spot of culture, don’t forget to take a trip to Diocletian’s Palace in Split.

Turkey

It’s no secret that for the past few years, Turkey has become a holiday hotspot for UK travellers and 2014 is set to be no different. Resorts such as Icmeler offer glorious beaches, whitewashed houses and lively bars, but it’s the Lycian coast that’s starting to become more appreciated – particularly the largest and most developed resort in the area, Marmaris.

Other resorts along the Lycian coast are well worth checking out including Antalya, Fethiye and Kas – which are all set to become more popular next year. Beaches along the coastline allow you to relax in the sun, while there are also plenty of historical sites such as the Roman Amphitheatre in Xanthos that are not to be missed.

Montenegro

Montenegro

Montenegro is one of the newest holiday destinations around – meaning going on a trip here allows you to try something new. Surrounded by more established countries such as Croatia, Serbia and Albania, tourism has still yet to hit this Balkan country in a big way, so it’s a great time to visit. The beaches here are pristine, the climate is Mediterranean and there are many ancient towns that are steeped in history. One must-visit site is the Monastery of Ostrog, built into the rock on the side of the Ostroška Greda Mountain.

Cancun Beach

Mexico

For a long haul flight next summer, look no further than Mexico – particularly the lively resort of Cancun. Surrounded by the warm turquoise sea, the popularity of this area on the Caribbean coast is set to continue in 2014. Cancun caters for everyone, whether you want to lounge around on the beach all day or hit the bars and clubs in the evening. We particularly recommend checking out the country’s archaeology at the city’s Mayan Museum (Museo Maya de Cancun).

Sri Lanka

If you’re seeking an exotic holiday next year, the beautiful island of Sri Lanka should definitely be near the top of your list. Sri Lanka is located in South Asia, and has a 3000 year old history to explore while you’re there. You can take your pick at what you’d like to do here, from sightseeing and spa days to picture perfect beaches and safari. Elephant spotting at the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage is a definite must-do, too.

Where are you going in 2014?
