While we’re all about saving you time and money, we’re also committed to doing our bit for charity too, and try our very best to help where we can.

We’re proud to announce that this year, HDC has sponsored two events in aid of local charities.

Coast to Coast:

The first one we supported was Coast 2 Coast, which took place on the 15th May to benefit the RVI Newcastle Children’s cancer ward. The team of 12 cycled 140 miles in total from Whitehaven to Tynemouth. The team completed the challenge in 3 days and managed to raise a massive £3,000 for the organisation.

Team leader, Richard Turnbull, whose son is fighting leukaemia said: “I would like to thank the lads, Dave, Steve, Chris, Matt, Shaun, Colin, Graham, Rob, Jonathan, John and Graham who joined me on the Coast to Coast cycle ride to raise money for the Children’s Cancer Unit RVI. We had an absolutely fantastic time, and thank you all so much and to everyone who so kindly donated.”

 Sunderland 10k and half marathon:

The second event we sponsored was the 2014 Sunderland 10k and half marathon on the 4th May, which raises thousands of pounds for a number of local charities each year. Some of our team members also participated as you can see from the photos!

HDC Managing Director Steve Campion said: “Having participated in the team marathon at the Sunderland festival of running last year, we were delighted to be able to sponsor the Sunderland City Half Marathon and 10K in 2014. This was a great opportunity for us to support a high profile event in the North East, where we have been established for over 10 years. We also sponsored the Sunderland City Club challenge, who received a prize trip to Dublin for 4 to take part in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Dublin half marathon in August.”

Our social team also thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Sunderland 10k, and it was great to sponsor an event right on our door step. We also gave away hundreds of luggage labels on the day – one very lucky guy even won a £1,000 holiday voucher!
