Winter doesn’t have to be miserable – escape the UK and book a holiday away instead! Here are some of the best destinations to visit to escape the winter blues…

Algarve

Algarve is popular a destination amongst holidaymakers, as its southern European position provides plenty of winter sunshine. Albufeira – the main city in the region – is a favourite amongst hikers, with breathtaking cliffs dominating the cities surrounding landscape, whilst quaint stonewashed homes, ancient castles and a vibrant nightlife make up the city centre. Albufeira is also close to world-class theme and water parks, including Zoomarine and Aquashow Park.

Gran Canaria

You can take your pick of the Canary Islands when it comes to a top winter destination, but we think Gran Canaria is an especially great spot to visit. The island has over 230km of coastline, home to gorgeous beaches perfect for exploring and relaxing at, along with great mountains perfect for hiking. The town of Maspalomas has something for every kind of personality, but if you’re a thrillseeker it’s a dream; there are jet ski, parasailing and scuba diving tours in abundance.

Cuba

To avoid any chance of catching the rainy season, winter is one of the best times of year to visit Cuba. The sun is out (average temperatures of around 26° celsius) and the crowds aren’t too big. Along with the amazing capital city of Havana, there are plenty of picturesque beach resorts, including Aruba and Antigua. However, Havana is the crown jewel of the island and is a perfect place to take in some culture, sights and sounds.

Sharm El Sheikh

With flights from the UK reintroduced towards the end of 2019, we think Sharm El Sheikh will be a great destination to visit in 2020. bout a six-hour journey from the UK, but with almost guaranteed sunshine, flight time is a small price to pay. There are plenty of great spots to swim and scuba dive, including the glorious Naama Bay. Here, you’ll also be able to find great places to eat and drink. Another great place to relax is Nabq Bay, which is equally as beautiful with golden stretches of coastline, but with fewer crowds.
