Lanzarote is the third most populous Canary Island after Tenerife and Gran Canaria and is a great holiday destination for those looking for all types of getaways. On this list, we guide you through some of the main attractions of Lanzarote: from the classic warm weather and glorious beaches to some of the lesser-known things to do and see including cactus gardens and caves…

The Ideal Climate

One of the main reasons that Lanzarote is so popular with so many tourists from all across the world is due to the beautiful climate that it enjoys. Sitting just off the North African coast, the island enjoys splendid weather all-year-round, meaning you can jet off to enjoy the peak of the summer weather or look for a warm, winter escape during the colder months in the UK. For most of the year expect consistent sunshine, warm temperatures and a completely comfortable climate.

Exciting Water Sports

You will find a wide range of water sports to enjoy in all parts of the island but some of the best places can be found around the major resorts of Playa del Carmen and Playa Blanca. Whether you are giving something a try for the first time or are experienced with extreme water sports, Lanzarote is ready to cater to your every need. Parasailing, jet skiing, banana boating, flyboarding, diving and snorkelling are just some of the options that this magnificent island has to offer with the crystal-clear waters to match!

Wander around the Cactus Garden

One of the most culturally-fulfilling attractions that you can visit in Lanzarote is the spectacular Cactus Garden in Guatiza Town. It was the last work of the famous artist Cesar Manrique in Lanzarote and the garden has since become one of the best places to visit on the island. Here, you can expect to find more than a thousand cactus species from around the world as well as other works of art and design from Manrique. There is also an onsite restaurant and bar if you really want to make an afternoon or evening of the garden.

Lively Nightlife

There is plenty of fantastic nightlife to choose from in Lanzarote with the main hotspots being in the main resorts of Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise. Bars and nightclubs are in abundance in these places, as are very reasonably priced hotels close by, if you are looking to roll out of bed in the mornings and stumble back home in the evenings. There are also more traditional bars dotted all around the island that are definitely worth checking out.

Amazing Caves and Beaches

For the more adventurous travellers out there, Lanzarote has a fascinating cave system to explore called Cueva de Los Verdes. It is one of the longest volcanic tunnels in the world at 6km long and a 2km stretch of those are open to visitors. The caves were formed from volcanic eruptions around 3000 years ago and are now host to not just explorers, but also concert-goers! Outside of the caves, Lanzarote is well-known for its vast selection of white, sandy beaches that are ideal for relaxing on and catching that perfect tan.
