With less than seven weeks until half term begins, you might already be thinking of getting away somewhere for the break.

Resort highlight:  Paphos has loads of attractions for the little ones, including the Paphos Bird and Animal Park. There are numerous birds in the park from emus and toucans to pigeons and parrots. However, you’ll also come across exotic animals like zebras, apes and camels. The children’s zoo is a must for younger visitors who will have the chance to pet goats, feed chickens and stroke the rabbits.

Resort secret:  Go on a cruise from Bugibba Harbour to explore some of the island’s highlights from the Blue Lagoon to Gozo and the Blue Caves. One of the more attractive options is aboard a wooden Turkish gullet.

Resort secret:  Dinosauria is a must for dinosaur lovers. A 5D cinema will entertain the children and give them a fully interactive experience, while laser dinosaurs show what Crete may have looked like millions of years ago. There’s even an area where children can dig up fossils.

4. Quarteira, Portugal

Half-term temperature:  17°C is the average

Average cost:  All-inclusive stays are available from £163pp

Resort secret:  You can swim with sea lions within the Aqua Show Park. After meeting the sea lion trainer and enjoying a playful interaction session you’ll take to the water with these incredible mammals. Sea lions are able to mimic humans and although every session is different, you might be lucky enough to receive a kiss as they whizz past you in the water.

5. Nessebar, Bulgaria

Half-term temperature:  13°C is the average for the end of October

Average cost:  £300pp all-inclusive including flights

Resort secret:  A folklore show is a great way to introduce children to the local customs and traditions. In Nessebar, the show features locals carrying out dances in native costumes and visitors have the chance to wander around the tents of Bulgarian khans and see spectacular views across the resort of Sunny Beach.
