From revealing holiday habits (literally!) to a new way of saving money on accommodation, there’s been plenty going on in the world of travel in the last seven days – oh and someone had a baby too!
Our travel news roundup takes a look at some of this week’s most interesting travel stories:
It’s a Boy
Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last week, you’ll be aware that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (Will and Kate to you and I) are now the proud parents of a new baby boy. Prince George Alexander Louis was born on Monday afternoon causing hundreds of tourists, well-wishers and media to rejoice at the news that they’ll no longer have to stand outside a hospital for hours – good work Kate!
Stranger in the Night
Have you ever complained about the cost of holiday accommodation? Well now single travellers can halve the cost of their lodgings by sharing with a complete stranger. People who have already booked a room are able to get in touch with fellow globetrotters to ask if they fancy sharing. We recommend asking if they snore before agreeing to anything, though…
Brits and the City
A recent survey by the Post Office has shown that the UK has some interesting new holiday habits. Apparently, 19% of British tourists admit to booking their holidays after seeing the destination in a film, such as New York after seeing Sex and the City, and Las Vegas after watching The Hangover. It also seems the importance of looking good on holiday is rising, with 39% of men aged 18 to 24 saying the main reason for going on holiday is to get a tan. How manly.
Drooler of the Air
We’ve all been there. You’re quietly enjoying a journey when the person sitting next to you suddenly falls asleep on your shoulder, leaving you with a large drooling and snoring head right next to yours. So what do you do? Well, one man on a flight across America decided to film his awkward experience – which then went viral.
E-Holiday
Many of us book our holidays hoping to leave behind the stresses of everyday life. However, it seems many of us are unable to switch off when we’re on our jollies, as a recent survey reveals 50% of tablet owners take their devices on holiday. A quarter of these also admit to checking their emails multiple times a day, while over half felt that they had to respond to them too.
And Finally…
It’s the Germans who are most likely to get their kit off on holiday, with almost a fifth of those asked admitting to going au naturel on the beach. The Danes are equally as carefree with 40% of women happy to sunbathe topless. Ladies from Japan and Malaysia are least likely to bare all, while 18% of us Brits prepare for our holidays with a spot of waxing – ouch!
