Paris really flourishes in July and August. From the Tour de France to Bastille Day, this classy capital is packed with exciting events to tick off the old bucket list.
However, you don’t have to spend a bucket load to have a good time – we’ve rounded up a list of ways to spend a Paris summer on the cheap. Allons-y!
Bastille Day
When: 14 July
Of course, in France, le 14 juillet is the event of the season – and especially in Paris. The best bit? While the morning parade and free entry to the Louvre are all worth taking advantage of, it’s the Eiffel Tower’s fireworks that keep us coming back for more. It’s not just the display though, there’s a free orchestra performance before the fireworks begin at approximately 11pm.
Paris Plage
When: 20 July-20 August
We all know that come July, it can get quite hot in the city. But in Paris: the beach comes to you. For the 12th year in a row, Paris Plage will return to the banks of the Seine – with sandy havens popping up in three different locations along the river. With palm trees and parasols, not to mention sand galore, it’s the ideal spot to chill out on a scorching summer’s day – and completely free, bien sûr!
Outdoor Cinema
When: 23 July-24 August
The Parc de la Villette in the city’s 19th arrondissement is screening a number of open-air films every Sunday and Wednesday throughout the month. From French indies to Hollywood blockbusters some of this year’s highlights include Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, We and I and Le Dernier été de la Boyita. The best news? Tickets are just €7. Tour de France
When: 27 July
This year marks the 101st anniversary of the Tour de France. And as per usual, you can flock to the Champs-Élysées to get a glimpse of the race’s final stretch – and witness the participants crossing the finish line after their 3,664 kilometre journey. Top tip? Get there early – as the iconic street fills up fast, and pack a picnic as this part of Paris is not known for its bargains.
