The Big Debate: Holidaying Solo Vs Group Getaways

When it comes to holidays, there are a number of different ways to take a break. Whether it’s a city break, beach holiday, ski trip or perhaps a holiday in the UK, everyone has their own idea of how to relax.

But once you’ve decided what type of break you’re after, the next question to ask yourself is who to take with you on your stint away. While many people go with their friends, family members or their partner, others find it easier to tick everything off their to-do list by going solo.

But is travelling alone more lonesome than it is liberating? We battle it out with our Big Debate…

Why Go It Alone?

1. Independent Itinerary

There’s no one to get in the way of your travel agenda. That means you can do what you want, when you want and without getting into any arguments. After all, a holiday is supposed to be stress free!

2. Plenty of ‘Me Time’

For some of us, a trip away is the perfect excuse to get some much needed alone time. There’s no one to disturb you while you’re sleeping or reading on the beach, and you can stay there all day if you want.

3. Wallet Friendly

Going solo also means you can stick to your budget without having to worry about being inconsiderate. There’s no pressure to go out either if you don’t fancy it, and you get to choose what restaurants you want to eat at.

4. Single and Ready to Mingle

You might also be more inclined to meet new people if you don’t have anyone else to socialise with – expanding your social circles. Plus you won’t have anyone else around to cramp your style.

Why Take Along Some Company?

1. Fun and Games

Whether you’re in the car, at the airport, on a train or simply in need of some light amusement, you’ll never be short of someone to indulge you in a game of I Spy. Let’s face it, there’s only so much solitaire a person can handle!

2. Good Company

You won’t have to resort to eating or drinking alone. You’ll always have at least someone to rely on when it comes to company.

3. Safety in Numbers

You’ll have someone to watch your stuff as you go for a dip (and take a snap of you swimming too). You also might feel safer travelling with others as you’ll know that someone’s got your back.
