As the Premier League season comes to an end, footballers across the country will be starting to think about their summer holiday – although some fans (mainly those of Newcastle) might feel their team’s players started thinking about it several weeks ago!
So where can you expect to rub shoulders with your favourite football stars on holiday this year? We take a look at some of the top destinations footballers chose to visit in 2014.
Egypt
Boasting on Twitter that it was 44 degrees while he was there, Everton’s Ross Barkley flew to Egypt after England’s World Cup exit last year. Posing for a photo with a cold drink in his hand, Barkley looked to be in luxurious surroundings, and it seemed as though he was enjoying the 5-star treatment in one of Egypt’s top resorts such as Sharm el Sheikh or Hurghada.

United States
The United States are always popular with footballers in search of a fun break and the summer of 2014 was no different. Firstly, Manchester United goalkeeper, David de Gea was seen reliving his childhood at Walt Disney World in Florida, Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere was pictured living the high life in Las Vegas after the World Cup was over, while Cesc Fabregas of Chelsea was spotted enjoying a bit of sightseeing in New York.

Barbados
For pure luxury, there are few destinations better than Barbados, so it’s no surprise that many Premier League stars visit the island every year. Last year, Dutch striker Robin van Persie spent time there with his wife and children, and even had time to enjoy a spot of kayaking and jet skiing whilst he was there. Tottenham full back Danny Rose was relishing his luxurious accommodation on the island, while the odd combination of Alan Shearer and Hull City manager Steve Bruce holidayed here together at the start of this year.

Greece
Fancy a holiday in Greece? Well there’s always a good chance you’ll be sharing the beach with some of the biggest names in football. The island of Mykonos was the place to be for Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho (not together), while John Terry spent time in Greece with his family, having a go at knee-boarding with his children.

Ibiza
After the disappointment of England’s World Cup campaign in 2014, Steven Gerrard clearly wanted to let his hair down – so headed to the party island of Ibiza with his wife and daughters. Rather than the open top bus ride that might have been if England had won the World Cup, Gerrard was spotted riding a pedalo!
