The World Cup brings people together. Not just people from different nations and backgrounds, but also families and friends as they share in all of the excitement and buzz around the tournament. There is no better way to experience the games than in a new, different enviornment and create family memories that will live long into the future. Today we have 5 great family destinations for you in places that have already been diagnosed with World Cup fever…
Menorca – Spain
While Spain may have had a slow start to the World Cup, there is nothing slow about the vibrant, activity-filled destination of Menorca. This popular Spanish island is perfect for a family getaway with a whole host of beaches, crystal-blue water and things to do. Check out Son Bou which features a huge beach with plenty of space to play football or build giant sand castles. The bigger kids and adults can even get involved with the large inflatable slides in the sea which are sure to bring some laughs!
Albufeira – Portugal
Another sun-kissed spot to watch the World Cup with your family. Albufeira sits on the south coast of Portugal and also home to luscious sandy beaches and a string of family-friendly bars and pubs to watch all of the games. The seaside town is one of the most popular in the whole of Europe with families due to the amount of watersports, water parks and theme parks as well as a gorgeous climate. Some stunning resorts that sit right in the middle of the magic that we recommend are Algarve Gardens and Eirasol.
Playa del Carmen – Mexico
There is arguably no better place to watch the World Cup with your family than in the home of the fiesta – Mexico. While central Cancun can get a little rowdy, Playa del Carmen to the south provides the ideal mix between family chill time, beach activities and funtime to get involved with. Check out Hostal Vive La Vida for a quieter, traditional-style roof terrace resort. If you always want something going on to entertain the kids, then we recommend Sandos Caracol Eco. It has its own beach, clubhouse and pool facilities!
Marrakech – Morocco
Despite their early exit from the World Cup, the Moroccans showed plenty of heart and their football was very easy on the eye. The same can be said for Marrakech, with its amazing range of attractive and vibrant sites. Take the kids to the great open square of Djemaa el Fna where acrobats and magicians perform most nights and try some world famous Moroccan food such as tagine. If this sounds appealing to you and your family, check out Oudaya Hotel. It contains its own swimming pool, table tennis tables and is just a short ride from the open square mentioned above!
Dubrovnik – Croatia
With Croatia looking set to go far in the tournament, World Cup Fever is likely to still be lingering whenever you decide to go. Although the beautiful country has a grand selection of family-friendly cities and resorts, Dubrovnik is our pick of the bunch and its stunning resort Hotel Adriatic. The kids will have plenty to do with the on-site tennis courts, man-made beach and snack bar. The adults can watch the games in one of the dedicated, air-conditioned TV rooms or decompress with some water-sport activities. The historical city is also perfect for an idyllic exploration, highly recommended as the sun starts to set!
